September — 2018
Wright offered a special collection of original Jean-Michel Basquiat works at auction, which were consigned by a close friend of the artist. Following an essay written by the consignor which recollects their friendship, the works are accompanied by historical images and stories of Basquiat’s relationship to other pop culture idols such as Madonna and Andy Warhol.
Designed to be an artifact itself, the cover of this catalog highlights a blind embossed Polariod of Basquiat and is bound together with bright red string, a color that is prevalent in his artwork. The layouts adhere to a strict grid to juxtapose Basquiat’s expressive paintings and sketches.
