Grey Areas
Art Direction / Design
March — 2016

Isaac Newton's third law of motion declares that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. This is true not only in physics but in all aspects of our lives, which exist in a constant state of struggle between opposite forces: love/hate, good/evil, and work/play. My design partner Michael Zhang and I set out to create a piece that would challenge these absolutes. Our solution was a series of three neon signs that displayed how these opposing forces actually work together to create balance and harmony, as two parts to a whole. Entirely interactive, viewers are able to engage with the signs to reflect their own personal state of being—whether that’s one side, the other, or the grey area in between.
